Add your own skills
On Pro and Power, paste in a skill or import a GitHub repository for yourself.
Adding your own skills is part of the Pro and Power plans. (On the Free plan you can choose 2 of the skills that come with Site Haus.) Your own skills are private to you: only you see them, only your own AI uses them, and they only guide the AI in your own projects.
What a skill file looks like#
A skill is a file called SKILL.md. It starts with a name and a description between --- lines, then the instructions:
---
name: brand-voice
description: Write and check copy in our brand voice. Use when writing headings, buttons or emails.
---
# Brand voice
Short, warm, no jargon. Write the way a friendly shop owner talks.
Never say "leverage" or "solutions". Headings are three to six words.- name is what you type after a slash, like
/brand-voice. Use letters, numbers and dashes. - description is what the AI reads to decide when to load the skill. Say what the skill does and when to use it.
- The instructions can be as long as you like, up to about 80 KB. Be specific: what to check, what to do, what to avoid.
- Add
disable-model-invocation: trueunder the description if the AI should only use the skill when you call it by name.
A skill can be a whole folder#
Many skills come with more than one file: templates, reference notes, helper scripts. Site Haus keeps the whole folder with its structure, so the skill can point to those files:
skills/scroll-world/
├── SKILL.md
└── references/
├── index-template.html
├── knockout.py
├── pipeline.md
├── prompts.md
└── scrub-engine.jsWhen the skill says "see references/pipeline.md", the AI reads that file with the skill tool, by its path. In the Skills window each file is listed under the skill by its path, and you can open any of them. Your own ChatGPT or Claude can read them too.
Paste a skill#
- Open the skills window: Integrations → Skills, or the Skills button in the chat and Browse all skills.
- Press + Add your own and stay on Paste a skill. Fill in an example shows the layout.
- Paste your SKILL.md and press Add skill.
It appears under My skills. If something is missing, such as the description, it tells you what to fix. A name that is already used by a skill that comes with Site Haus, or one the site owner added, cannot be used again.
Import from GitHub#
Choose From GitHub, paste the address of a public repository, like https://github.com/owner/skills, and press Import. Every folder in it that holds a SKILL.md file becomes one of your skills. The rest of the skill's folder is kept too, with its structure (for example references/ and scripts/), because skills often point to those files. The AI can read any of them when the skill asks for it.
Upload a ZIP instead#
Choose Upload a ZIP and pick a ZIP file (up to 25 MB) that holds one or more skill folders. It works exactly like a GitHub import: every folder with a SKILL.md becomes a skill, its structure is kept, and the same safety checks run. Use it for a skill you were sent, or one that is not on GitHub.
How imported files are kept safe#
Site Haus stores these files (from GitHub or a ZIP) as plain text and never runs, serves or opens them. Before anything is kept it is checked:
- Only text files are kept (Markdown, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, shell, JSON, YAML, CSV and similar). Programs, archives, images and other binary files are left out, even if they are renamed to look like text.
- Files with hidden characters that can disguise code or instructions are left out.
- Files that are plainly malicious are left out, such as code that downloads and runs something, opens a reverse shell, mines cryptocurrency, or reads private keys and sends them out. If a skill's own SKILL.md fails the check, the whole skill is left out.
- Links, hidden files, very large files, and very large or deeply nested folders are left out.
- Text that tries to give the AI orders, such as "ignore your instructions", is kept but reported to you as a warning.
The import result lists everything that was left out and why. You can have up to 60 skills of your own.
Only add skills from people you trust. A skill is text that tells the AI what to do, so read it first. You can read any skill in full before you use it.
Use and remove them#
Your skills work like the others: the AI can load them when a request fits, you can call one with /name, and you can turn it on or off. To delete one, open it and press Remove.
