Connect your own domain
Pro
Put your client sign-in page on your own address, like portal.youragency.com, step by step.
Your clients can sign in at a free Site Haus address, or at an address on your own domain, such as portal.youragency.com. This page walks through the second option from start to finish. You need access to wherever your domain's DNS is managed. That is usually your domain registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Hostinger, Google Domains and similar) or a service like Cloudflare.
Before you start#
- Use a subdomain. An address like
portal.youragency.comorclients.youragency.comworks everywhere and is the easiest. Leave your main website (youragency.com) where it is. - A bare domain such as
youragency.comalso works, but only if your DNS provider lets you add an A record at the root. Site Haus shows you the right record for it. If your main site already lives there, choose a subdomain instead. - Pick a name nobody else is using. If it is taken by another agency or another published site, Site Haus tells you.
Connect it#
- Open Agency → Agency settings and scroll to Client sign-in address.
- Under Your own domain, type the address you chose (for example
portal.youragency.com) and press Use my own domain. - Site Haus shows two DNS records. Add both at your DNS provider:
- CNAME (or an A record for a bare domain). It points your address at Site Haus. In the Name or Host box, enter the part before your domain (
portal). Some providers want the full address; if one form fails, try the other. In Value or Points to, paste the value Site Haus shows. Use the Copy button so nothing is mistyped. - TXT. It proves the domain is yours. Its name starts with
_themestudio.(for example_themestudio.portal) and its value looks likets-verify=…. Paste the value exactly as shown.
- CNAME (or an A record for a bare domain). It points your address at Site Haus. In the Name or Host box, enter the part before your domain (
- Go back to Site Haus and press Check DNS. When it says Connected, you are done.
- Open your address in a browser. The first visit sets up the security certificate, so the very first load can take a few seconds. After that it is fast.
Clients can now sign in at your own address, and the page carries your agency name and colour. If you also have the free Site Haus address, it keeps working.
If it says "Waiting for DNS"#
DNS changes are not instant. Most are visible within a few minutes, some take an hour or two. Press Check DNS again after a little while. If it still waits:
- Check the names. The most common mistake is typing the full address into a box that adds your domain automatically, giving something like
portal.youragency.com.youragency.com. Try entering onlyportal, and_themestudio.portalfor the TXT record. - Check the values. Copy them again from Site Haus. A stray space or quote breaks the TXT record.
- Remove old records. If
portalalready has another record (an A or CNAME to somewhere else), delete it. A name can point to only one place. - Cloudflare. Set the CNAME to DNS only (the grey cloud), not Proxied. Site Haus cannot see through the proxy to check it. You can turn the proxy back on once it shows Connected if you want it.
- Only one record is missing. If Site Haus says your ownership is confirmed but the address does not point to Site Haus yet, the TXT record is right and the CNAME (or A record) still needs adding or fixing.
Change or remove it#
To stop using your own address, open the same card and press Remove domain. Clients then sign in at the Site Haus address again. You can then delete the two records at your DNS provider. To use a different address, remove this one and add the new one.
Your published websites#
This page is about your client sign-in address. To put a website you built on its own domain, open the project, choose Publish → Domains & settings and follow the steps in its Domains tab. It works the same way: add a record that points the address at Site Haus, and a TXT record that proves you own it.
