Build a WordPress theme with AI

Describe a theme, choose Classic or Block, and get a real installable theme with demo content to preview, edit, publish or install.

Site Haus builds real WordPress themes: the template files, theme.json for colours and fonts, menus, a custom logo, featured images and responsive CSS, written the way a WordPress developer would write them. You can try it on demo content in your browser, then install it on a site or publish it.

Start a theme#

  1. On the home screen, choose the WordPress theme icon (the W). The heading changes to What WordPress theme would you like to build?
  2. Choose the kind of theme from the small menu beside the box:
    • Classic theme: PHP templates with theme.json. Works with the Customizer, and suits sites that rely on plugins or page builders.
    • Block theme: HTML templates you can restyle visually in WordPress's Site Editor.
  3. Describe the site. Say who it is for, which pages it needs, the look and any features, for example A theme for a photographer's portfolio: a front page with a large project grid, single project pages, an Info page and a contact form, calm and minimal.
  4. Press the arrow. The AI starts building and shows each step.

Not sure what to ask for? Open the + menu and choose Give me an idea. The idea fills the box, and for WordPress it may also pick the matching starter theme. A sparkle button appears beside + to give you another one.

Start from pictures, a design or an existing theme#

  • Screenshots of a site you like: add them from the + menu, then choose Clone, Remix or Use brand style. See Use images and Figma.
  • A Figma design: + → Figma, and paste a link to a frame.
  • A theme you already have: + → Import project and choose its ZIP. See Import a project.

What the AI does#

For a new theme the AI works in this order:

  1. It reads your images carefully and writes a short design brief with measured values (widths, spacing, type sizes, colours). You can read it in the project.
  2. It starts from the closest starter (a Classic starter, a Block theme starter, or a Portfolio starter) and builds the templates and styles.
  3. It adds demo content: pages, posts, a menu and placeholder images, so the preview looks like a real site.
  4. It runs code checks (PHP, theme.json, WordPress conventions and safety rules) and fixes every failure before it finishes. A version is saved only when the checks pass.

The theme uses real WordPress features: the template hierarchy, a menu, a custom logo, featured images, translation-ready text, escaped output, and colours and fonts stored in theme.json so they stay editable.

Preview and change it#

The preview runs a full WordPress inside your browser with your theme active, so nothing can touch a live site. Switch between desktop, tablet and phone, and use the page picker to visit the front page, a post, an archive and more. See Preview your site.

To change something, describe it in the chat: Make the header sticky and add a testimonials section to the front page. You can also open the Code tab and edit files yourself. Every change is a version you can go back to: Versions and undo.

Themes that need plugins#

Some themes list plugins they need. The preview has no internet access by default, so a banner offers Allow internet and install for the plugins from WordPress.org. Plugins that are bundled inside a theme as ZIP files are not imported; install those from their maker on your real site. Details are in Preview your site.

Put it on a site#

From the Publish menu you can:

  • Download theme ZIP, then upload it in WordPress under Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload.
  • Install on this site or Install and activate on a WordPress site you have connected once. See WordPress sites.
  • Publish to run it as a real WordPress site at its own address, with the theme active and an administrator login. Hosted WordPress sites are part of Pro (2 sites) and Power (6 sites). See Publish your site.

Tips for better themes#

  • Say Classic or Block if you have a preference. If you do not, the AI builds a classic theme, and a block theme when you mention the Site Editor or full site editing.
  • Name the templates you need: front page, blog, single post, archive, search, 404, a page for contact.
  • Ask for colours and fonts as theme settings, so the site owner can change them later.
  • Give real words, not placeholders. The demo content uses your wording where you give it.
  • Check phone and tablet before you share the preview link.
